Wellness programme

Our vision for Wellness at Port Otago is simple. We want our kaimahi to be well supported, so they can feel their best. We therefore give kaimahi access to the resources they need to achieve good wellbeing.

Our vision

Our vision for Wellness at Port Otago is simple. We want our Kaimahi to be well supported so they are always feeling at their best. We make wellbeing a priority and want our kaimahi to have access to the resources they require to achieve good wellbeing.

To support our vision, a project team of Wellness Champions from across the business was formed. The project team have started actioning ideas suggested by our Kaimahi through engagement sessions and lighthouse suggestions and show no signs of slowing.

Wellness themes

To achieve our vision, we have selected five general themes to focus on, which fall into areas of our wider framework. The themes for 2023/24 are:

  • Men’s Health
  • Women’s Health
  • Financial Wellbeing
  • Mental Wellbeing
  • General Health and Wellbeing

Having defined themes allows us to meet the needs of our diverse workforce, by providing a wide range of initiatives. Our hope is this will encourage all of our Kaimahi to get involved.

Our framework

Our framework, the container ship, is based on the Four Dimensions of Wellbeing (Te Whare Tapa Wha), developed by Sir Mason Durie in 1984.

The four dimensions are:

  • taha tinana (physical wellbeing)
  • taha hinengaro (mental wellbeing)
  • taha wairua (spiritual wellbeing)
  • taha whanau (family wellbeing)

Traditionally, the four dimensions are visualised as a house. We have chosen to use a container ship.
