Berths and cruise terminals

The majority of cruise ships berth at Port Chalmers – the small port-side town, 20 minutes from Dunedin’s city centre, the Octagon. There are several transport options for the short trip into Dunedin. Some smaller ships can continue into the upper harbour and berth right alongside Dunedin city. Check the cruise schedule for berth details.

Port Otago has dedicated cruise terminals in both Port Chalmers and Dunedin.

The Port Chalmers cruise terminal is considered the best in the New Zealand. It is a large space, with ample seating, free wi-fi, clear signage and well-informed port staff and community volunteers on hand to answer any passenger queries. The Dunedin cruise terminal has been customised for smaller cruise vessels, as a warm dry space to wait for taxis and transition on and off the wharf.
