Entry to the Port Otago Annex

If you are only entering the Port Otago Annex (administration building, corner of Port Chalmers’ George and Beach Streets), photographic identification is required. It is acceptable for your photographic identification to be on your mobile phone (rather than the original version).

Entry to restricted zones at Port Otago

Port Otago must comply with the Maritime Security Act 2004 which requires that access to the Port is restricted to authorised people on approved port-related business.

The security controls at Port Otago apply to everyone and are in place to keep our people, borders and environment safe.

To enter the Port, you must:

  • Bring acceptable photographic identification – that is, original copies of either your passport or driver licence.
  • Have a legitimate, approved and verifiable reason to access the area.

Entering any of our port facilities is deemed as consent for identification checks and searching. Failure to consent to the security measures in place will result in admittance being denied.

Port Otago is also a licenced Customs Controlled Area and a MPI approved transitional facility. Everyone entering the port must comply with the Customs and Excise Act (2018) and the Biosecurity Act (1993).

Bringing weapons into port security areas without authorised and/or written consent from Port Otago is an offence. This includes firearms, ammunition, explosives or any other dangerous or offensive weapon or instrument of any kind.

Please note: All of Port Otago’s sites have CCTV security recording and monitoring and these operate 24/7.
