Careers at Port Otago

Port Otago’s team of more than 300 employees (kaimahi) work across a wide variety of roles. Whether it’s hands-on in our container terminal, maintenance, supply chain, marine or cruise operations teams, or office based, like our finance, IT and people teams.

Our kaimahi are based across Dunedin, Mosgiel, Sawyers Bay and Port Chalmers.

While the port industry has traditionally attracted men, times are changing and we strongly encourage women to apply to all of our roles.

Safety culture

From a safety perspective, our industry is high risk, so it’s no surprise that health and safety is a top priority. At Port Otago, we are focused on continually improving our safe work practices. Our kaimahi look out for each other and are encouraged to suggest safety improvements – and these suggestions, along with regular review of good practice, are the basis of our improvements.

Our safety systems are designed to anticipate human error, so our kaimahi can "fail safely" and without serious or fatal injury.
