Port Otago supports VERMAS standards for container weighing. Verified Gross Mass (VGM) details are required for all containers, before they will be accepted on to the Port Chalmers Container Terminal or loaded on to a vessel. If there is no VGM, a "container stop" will be applied until a VGM is supplied.
For containers packed on-wharf at Port Chalmers, Port Otago will provide a weighing solution and electronically send the required container weight/s to the shipping line and cargo owner.
